Honey as antiseptic?

I have read that honey is a natural anti septic.
I am sure this would require pure all natural honey but I am not sure if pasteurized honey would work the same as non pasteurized.
If any of you have more info please chime in.
If you are in a situation and all you have is honey then this could be a great thing to keep in mind.

  1. Unpasteurized. Great article - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3609166/

  2. Dave above is correct, use unpasteurized honey and do not get it wet, honey is hydrophobic and in presence of water will spoil and not work and germs will go to town on the honey and your wound.

  3. Sugar dressings can be quite effective in healing infected wounds. Honey is just a sugar syrup, so of course it would work too.
