My viewpoint on "conspiracy theories", and my list of the ones that were proven.

I know the internet is full of these types of lists and I suppose that putting this together is a bit redundant. The reason I have for writing this is because of some issues I see with some, rather most, of those lists. They'll claim that they have a list of ones proven to be true, but will always add a few that are not, or at least have not been proven to my satisfaction. For instance, if a US government based theory is "proven" true by some guy somewhere who claims he was involved, that really doesn't cut it for me. But if the US government declassifies (perhaps accidentally) some documentation that proves they did something that they probably didn't want us to know, I personally place a higher value on that evidence. However, that's not the only type of evidence I'll accept, of course.

We have to be cautious in labeling events as hoaxes and conspiracy theories because once we determine for ourselves that every event is somehow a hoax or a conspiracy, then it doesn't matter anymore, and no one is going to listen. We are obviously wrong if we claim that everything that comes along is some big Illuminati plot. When people see that we label some event that way, and then they see that we've labeled a million other events the same way, then we've lost the argument from the start. Not everything is a big conspiracy. In fact, most things are not.

A few conspiracy theories that I still believe are false, or at least mostly false:

Moon landing was faked- A powerful enough telescope can show you the equipment we left behind. Even if you still say no one walked there, we surely put some of our gear up there. Aside from that, I still haven't seen the proof we didn't go. No one involved in a hoax has ever come forward, and a fake operation like that would require thousands of people to be involved. Not a single one of them wanted to write a tell-all book? With all the leaks these days, none from the fake moon landing? All we get for "proof" of a fake is dubious analysis of grainy footage and scientific explanations from non-scientists saying we can't launch a craft to the moon.

9/11 was an inside job- Yes, fire fueled by aircraft fuel can cause steel to become pliable enough to bend. No, it doesn't have to melt, it just has to heat up enough to weaken the steel to the point where it can't support the weight of what's on it. We also have not had jumbo jets fly into any of the other tallest buildings in the world. We can't pretend to know exactly how those buildings would behave if struck like that. With that said, continue reading below to see the TRUE conspiracy behind 9-11, with publicly documented, US government reports and testimony from intelligence agents. You don't have to concoct and execute a 9-11 style attack. You can just ALLOW someone else to do it instead. Also, there WAS plane debris around the Pentagon. Lots of it. The photos are widely available.

Sandy Hook was a hoax- This one is admittedly very strange, but I ask you this: Why would the US government undertake such an operation when all they had to do is WAIT for it to happen? An operation of this manner is a very high risk operation with an unknown amount of political reward. High risk, unknown reward? The US government doesn't do stuff with odds like that. Simply waiting for the inevitable to happen and then using it to your advantage is a low risk operation, same unknown reward. I am not ruling out various conspiracies or cover-ups after the fact. That smiling Robbie Parker video was really weird, but I just haven't been given anything more than conjecture, circumstantial evidence and distant, overhead footage of crowds of people walking around. I personally require more than that for something so serious.

Now about the conspiracy theories that turned out to be true. Here we go:

Nayirah's Gulf War testimony was false- The "crazy conspiracy theory" here was that a lot of the persuasive evidence for getting the US into the Persian Gulf War was false. Leading up to the war, a 15 year old Kuwaiti girl named Nayirah was interviewed by Congress on the atrocities she witnessed being committed by Iraqi soldiers in hospitals in Kuwait. This included her testimony that while working in a hospital, she witnessed Iraqi soldiers removing newborns from incubators and dropping them on the floor to die. Turns out that her testimony was entirely false, and she had been coached and trained to lie in these interviews by US public relations firm Hill & Knowlton. She was actually the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the US. Here is the evidence of Nayirah's false testimony.

Operation Mockingbird- The "crazy conspiracy theory" in this case was that US Intelligence (USI) had infiltrated American media for propaganda purposes. Operation Mockingbird was launched by the CIA in the 1950's to recruit, coordinate, influence and plant journalists and news stories and agendas into the mainstream news media. The goal was the manipulation of the media for purposes of propaganda. The CIA set up and maintained student organizations and cultural groups as front groups to spread propaganda. The operation also included surveillance of certain journalists and news organizations. It's believed that at one point, over 400 US journalists were carrying out instructions given by the CIA. Here is the US Senate report on the activities of the CIA in the American media.

Operation Northwoods- This "crazy conspiracy theory" was the one where the US government would actually launch a deadly attack against American citizens and then frame a foreign power for the attack. Northwoods was the "false flag" plan by the US Department of Defense to launch terrorist attacks against one or more American cities and military targets and place the blame on Cuba in order to sway public opinion in favor of invading Cuba. This would have resulted in numerous American civilian and military deaths. This plan was devised by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was to be carried out by the CIA. The memorandum itself was signed by the Chairman of the JCS, but the plan was rejected by the Kennedy Administration. This Wikipedia page has a photo of the declassified US government memo on Operation Northwoods. You can see at the top that the original classification was Top Secret with a "NOFORN" caveat, meaning that no release to foreign nationals was permitted.

Joseph McCarthy and the Venona Project- This "crazy conspiracy theory" was advanced by Senator Joseph McCarthy, and basically alleged that the US government had been infiltrated by communist agents at many levels. McCarthy was seen as a sort of crackpot at the time. However, after some deep investigation by Congress, they began to see that he may be correct. Here is information on the Venona Project, which led to the outing of US officials, such as Alger Hiss and Harry White, as Soviet agents. McCarthy was right!

Lee Harvey Oswald didn't act alone- I suppose this is the ultimate "crazy conspiracy theory". The theory is that Lee Harvey Oswald had assistance in assassinating JFK. So was their a second shooter? Congress seemed to think so. The US House Select Committee on Assassinations says that there were at least two shooters, and probably at least four gunshots.

Operation Popeye weather modification- From 1967 through at least 1972, the US government conducted what was called "cloud seeding" in order to extend the monsoon rainy season in Vietnam and Cambodia. The main area of targeting was on and around the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Causing increased amounts and length of rainstorms would wash out roads, river crossings and bridges along the trail, and would soften soil even more so than normal. This was estimated to have over 80% success. These activities now fall under the Environmental Modification Convention. So yes, there is such a thing as weather modification. Is it still happening? We don't know. But if it was possible and so simple in the 1960's, then what do you think we would be capable of today? Here is the page on cloud seeding.

US government poisoning citizens during prohibition- In the 1920's and 1930's, the US government actually poisoned industrial alcohol made in the US, that bootleggers were obtaining and remaking into alcoholic beverages. It's estimated that at least 10,000 people died as a result of being intentionally poisoned by their own government, with scores and scores more sickened. Poisonous methyl alcohol added to the drinkable product is what did the job. Here is the history of the US government poisoning it's own people for having a drink.

Saudi involvement in 9/11- This "crazy conspiracy theory" isn't what you think. I'm not going to make the claim that the government committed the attacks on 9-11. What I have here is actual, declassified, intelligence information reports from US Intelligence showing that the Saudi government was involved in funding and facilitating the attacks. Here are 28 declassified pages, including intelligence reports written by intelligence agents and testimony by same, posted on House.gov, that show that Saudi Arabia was involved in 9/11.

Gulf of Tonkin incident- Here is another example of the US government fabricating events in order to increase public support for a war effort. This event was a confrontation between US and North Vietnamese warships in the Gulf of Tonkin. President Johnson himself had later privately stated that for all he knew, our sailors had been "shooting at whales out there". In 2005 it came to light that the NSA had deliberately altered intelligence reports passed to lawmakers in order to make it appear that North Vietnamese vessels had attacked US vessels. Here is the information on the incident, and the evidence of the falsified reports.

Project MKUltra- For this "crazy conspiracy theory", it was said that the US government was attempting to develop and use mind control techniques. MKUltra was the codename for a series of experiments conducted on US citizens in order to develop and test mind control drugs and techniques. The CIA and the US Army's Biological Warfare Laboratories organized and ran the operations. The project began in 1953 and was not officially ended until 1973. Abuse, including sexual abuse of children, was part of the project, as was surreptitious administration of drugs, such as LSD. Here is the Wikipedia page on MKUltra.
COINTELPRO- This was a program that took place from 1956 through at least 1971 where the FBI used surveillance and infiltration to disrupt and discredit domestic political organizations deemed "subversive". Many people, myself included, firmly believe that these sort of activities were happening prior to 1956 and continue to this day, as evidenced by events such as the Bundy Ranch standoff and the siege at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, where the group of Bundy supporters were heavily infiltrated by FBI agents, even such that at Malheur, most of the occupiers were FBI informants. The FBI has a long history of infiltrating political groups in order to disrupt their functions. COINTELPRO is publicly documented.

There are many more examples of "crazy conspiracy theories" that have been publicly documented and proven. CIA drug smuggling, the Tuskegee experiments, the Iran-Contra affair, all of them have been proven true. The most important thing to remember about the things you've read here is not only that they happened, but it shows what governments, including our government, are capable of. Many of these things didn't come to light until many years after the fact. What could be going on behind the curtain today that we will find out about in the coming years? Why have so many people convinced themselves that these kinds of things couldn't possibly take place anymore?

  1. Can't vouch for it being and inside job or not, but if you watch the video closely, it was very clearly an orderly demolition when the buildings fell. The reason for demolition was logical enough (so they wouldn't damage nearby buildings) but all references to that were quickly scrubbed from the internet, though I saw them a couple places first.
